Master Tomas “Tommy” Duran started taekwondo at the age of 9 years old under the instruction of Master Andres Pesce, Master Augusto Duran, and Master Safa at American Taekwondo Centers (ATC) in Corona, CA. After achieving his 1st Dan, Master Tommy assisted in classes at ATC and helped promote Taekwondo through demonstrations.
In March 2012, Master Tommy joined Action Martial Arts (AMA) in Corona, CA under the instruction of Master J. Amador and Master M. Rigg where he later went on to teach students of all ages. In his time at AMA, Master Tommy went on to coach athletes including a national champion in Poomsae.
Master Tommy has been with 540 Taekwondo, teaching alongside his brother, Master Gus Duran since February of 2017. His goal here is to make every student feel welcome and to help them achieve their highest level possible whether it’s in taekwondo or anything else they’d like to pursue.
Master Tommy Duran is a USA Taekwondo certified referee. He attends seminars for updated rules, regulations, changes in the sport, and to overall become a better athlete and instructor. While his main focus is Poomsae, he hopes to also compete in sparring once again. Like his brother, he also enjoys doing aerial martial arts and demonstrational board breaking.
